Australia’s benchmark index S&P/ASX 200 closed 1.2% lower at 6024.0, giving up the last of their weekly gains amid continued coronavirus worries. Nearly every sector lost ground as the benchmark index finished the week down by 0.2%. Tech shares led losses following a negative lead from the Nasdaq Composite, losing 2.1% amid declines by the likes of Afterpay and Altium. The energy sector cooled by 1.0% after three straight days of gains, while the heavyweight financial sector fell 1.5%. The big four banks of CBA, NAB, ANZ and Westpac gave up between 1.2% and 1.8% amid gloomy predictions of the impact of new lockdown measures in parts of the country.
