International Business News – On August 26, 2022, the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the Intellectual Property Offices (IPOs) of the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held the 12th Japan-ASEAN IPO Directors Meeting in Malacca, Malaysia.
At the meeting, JPO and the IPOs of ASEAN member countries agreed on the Japan-ASEAN IPR Action Plan for FY 2022-2023. In addition, ASEAN and the East Asia Economic Research Institute (ERIA) presented an interim report on a study on patent examination practices and utilization of patent information for AI inventions, which was done in cooperation with the IPOs of ASEAN member countries.
During the Japan-ASEAN IP Office Directors’ Meeting, JPO also held bilateral meetings with IP institutions in Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines and Vietnam, confirming that it will continue to promote bilateral cooperation.
JPO is satisfied that it can continue to promote further international cooperation with overseas IP institutions.
ERIA is an international institute established in Jakarta in June 2008. ERIA provides policy research and advice to 16 East Asian countries (China, ASEAN countries, Japan, Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand) on deepening economic integration, narrowing development gaps and promoting sustainable economic growth. It also provides advice and recommendations at the summit level, including the East Asia Summit and the ASEAN Summit, and conducts policy research as requested.
