Temu, a subsidiary of the Chinese e-commerce giant Pinduoduo, announced that it has joined the Product Safety Pledge promoted by Japan’s Consumer Affairs Agency and other organizations. Temu stated that it will strengthen cooperation with regulatory authorities, further improve measures to prevent the sale of unsafe products, and enhance its efforts to provide relevant information to users.
Temu joined the pledge through its Japanese subsidiary. The Product Safety Pledge, established in 2023, requires companies to take measures such as providing information to consumers and removing products from shelves for products listed for recall or deemed unsafe. This is the first time a Chinese-founded company has joined.
Temu will require merchants to submit certification-related documents and other materials before listing products. It will also work closely with Japanese regulatory agencies and take measures such as removing products from shelves if they are confirmed to violate safety standards.
