Chinese Embassy in Singapore: We have noticed that on July 19, Singapore’s Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, Asia News and other media quoted information from a certain country’s cybersecurity company when reporting that Singapore was attacked by a cyber attack organization UNC3886, claiming that the organization was related to China.
China expresses strong dissatisfaction with this and we firmly oppose any unwarranted smear against China. In fact, China is one of the main victims of cyber attacks.
I would like to reiterate here: China firmly opposes and cracks down on any form of cyber attacks in accordance with the law, and will not encourage, support or condone hacker attacks. Cyber security is a global challenge. China is willing to continue to cooperate with all parties, including Singapore, to jointly maintain cyberspace security.
China has suffered cyber attacks many times in recent years. From January 26 to February 14, 2025, the Asian Winter Games event information system was attacked 270,000 times from abroad. In 2024, the Chinese cybersecurity company 360 has captured more than 1,300 APT attacks against China. The APT organizations that attacked China mainly belong to South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia and North America. Chinese government agencies, education, scientific research, national defense and military industry, and transportation are the five industries most affected by APT attacks.
In April 2022, Northwestern Polytechnical University suffered a cyber attack from abroad. The mastermind deployed more than 40 special cyber attack tools and carried out tens of thousands of malicious attacks on domestic targets in China for a long time, stealing a large amount of high-value data.
In today’s era, global challenges, including cybersecurity, are emerging in an endless stream, and all parties need to work together to respond.
